Chronic hunger not only impacts physical health, but emotional health and growth and development, with several more far-reaching and often devastating impacts. World hunger is a symptom of several root causes, including poverty, conflict, famine, disease, natural disasters/climate change, global economics, and issues with food availability and accessibility, among others. The following organizations are working towards their shared mission of solving the global hunger crisis. These organizations provide food resources to communities in need around the world, prepare and distribute meals during times of crisis and disaster, implement sustainable food programs, and develop policies to drive food distribution and improve food accessibility worldwide. Your donation to this Fund will help these organizations work towards the ultimate goal of reaching zero hunger by 2030.

Memorial Day, observed federally on the last Monday in May each year, recognizes and honors those who have lost their lives serving in the United States military. Memorial Day is a day to extend our deepest gratitude towards those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to serve and protect their country. The following organizations are honoring those we have lost by paying tribute to fallen soldiers while also serving our veteran community and their families in a multitude of ways. Since 2006, the month of May has been recognized as Jewish American Heritage Month, a dedicated time to recognize and celebrate Jewish achievements and contributions made to the United States in the arts, culture, academia, sports, medicine, governmental affairs, and so many more critical areas of our nation's history. The following pre-vetted organizations are celebrating the Jewish American experience through educational programming, artifact preservation, art and culture exhibitions/celebrations, and various other mediums to showcase the invaluable contributions so many Jewish figures have made to help the United States grow and prosper, all while honoring the richness of Jewish culture.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 which had been primarily constructed by Chinese immigrants. Bright Funds has established the AAPI Heritage Month Fund, composed of highly-rated Asian American nonprofits focused on civil rights, housing rights, legal representation, education, and cultural preservation and expression, all to amplify the community’s voice. Through a single donation to the Fund you will support a group of nonprofits that are working to eliminate discrimination and lift the voices of the AAPI community. Every year in May, Mental Health Awareness Month provides a dedicated time to raise awareness about the realities of individuals living with mental illness and ways to manage and achieve mental wellness, while promoting early detection in our youth. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the mental health of people of all ages. In November 2020, the CDC reported that 44% of Americans were coping with either depression or anxiety, and our communities continue to feel those effects today. Now, more than ever, it is critical to reduce the stigma around mental health struggles -- because that stigma often prevents individuals from seeking help. Bright Funds has established the Mental Health Awareness Month Fund composed of pre-vetted nonprofits committed to raising mental health awareness. Through a single donation to the Fund, you will support a group of nonprofits that are providing direct services, conducting research, and educating the masses in order to challenge myths, biases, and discrimination about what mental health is - and what it is not. Earth Day is marked by more than a billion people annually as a day of action toward a cleaner environment and the fight against climate change.
